BRICS Universe is coming to Cape Town!

On September 26, 2024 the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town will host the grand opening of the BRICS Universe exhibition project, which combines images of UNESCO Creative Cities located in the BRICS countries taken from earth and from space.

The BRICS Universe photo exhibition features unique photographs taken by the heroes of the Russian Federation, cosmonaut pilots Sergei Kud-Sverchkov and Ivan Wagner from the International Space Station, as well as by photographers on earth and representing the UNESCO Creative Cities of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – their colours, feelings, secrets, events, heritage and the greatness of nature. In total, 48 Russian and 41 foreign photographers from the BRICS countries are involved in the project.

In addition to the opportunity to get acquainted with the photographs themselves, the opening ceremony will include a meeting with the hero of the Russian Federation, cosmonaut pilot, project participant Sergei Kud-Sverchkov.

After the presentation of the exhibition, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov will tell you what it feels like to see from the height of orbit what we see from Earth and what feelings a person experiences in outer space, and visitors will be able to ask questions to the cosmonaut and get an autograph. The cosmonaut will also show a short film shot at the International Space Station.

The grand opening of the first exhibition took place on February 1, 2024 at the Cosmonautics Museum in Moscow, after which it continued its journey to St. Petersburg (Russia), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Kargopol (Russia), Beijing (China), Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk (Russia) and Mumbai (India). At the moment, the exhibition has been visited by about 200,000 people. The last city to host the exhibition after Cape Town will be Kazan (Russia).

The implementation of the BRICS Universe project became possible thanks to the partnership of the Nizhny Novgorod Grechko Planetarium with the State Corporation for Space Activities "Roscosmos", the Creative Industries Foundation fof the Ulyanovsk Region and the Russia – BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The project, implemented under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, was included in the Action Plan of the Russia's BRICS Chairmanship in2024, which is operated by the Roscongress Foundation.
